What'd I Say, Ray Charles This is a list of what Rolling Stone Magazine called "500 Greatest Songs of All Time" (i obviously only copy pasted the first 10 songs from the list) Do you agree with it? And if you could, anything you would change? Banned for life - You're being sarcastic....right? http://www.rollingstone.com/news/coverstory/500songs heres the full list
What was Rolling Stone magazine THINKING when they made their lists?!? Come on! These are some of the problems with the songs list...Stairway to Heaven is thirty, Bohemian Rhapsody is 127 and, Johnny B. Goode doesn't even make the top five! Albums: Kind of Blue by Miles Davis is 12, beating both DSotM and Born to Run. Vocalists: Rolling Stone completely discriminates against members of bands that they don't like. Steve Perry is 90 something. However, Ray Charles is #2. Can Ray Charles sing what Steve Perry can? I THINK NOT! Freddy Mercury is #18, but he can sing 4 different scales. Not falsetto.

What is the best musical collaboration of all time? To everybody in the world: What do you all think is the best musical collaboration of all time? This is open to all music of all genres from rap, R&B, blues, jazz, or disco. To me, collaborations are like kissing--it's much better when two people are involved. Sometimes, there have been some collaborations that feature more than two artists. Like, i was feeling real good when USA for Africa made "We are the World" in 1985. That song featured artists like Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jackson, Cyndi Lauper, Kenny Rogers, Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Dionne Warwick, and the list goes on. I like when artists can put their egos to the side and come together for a cause like that. There's no talk about $ or how big your house or car is an how many girls you put in your last video. When two (or more) worlds come together for the sake of creating some timeless music, it makes the world a better place!!!

Musicophiles, what are your opinions on these 50s classics? Here are the details. I am compiling a best of list for each year of the Rock n Roll era, i.e. 1955 onwards. Each list has 25 songs that I feel were the best in that year. It isn't a popularity contest. There is no political bias for or against certain view points. Songs are included based on their quality, not whether or not I like the artist or genre. In a way it is my way of sticking it to the Grammy's, who always seem to give awards to the songs that won't offend grandma. Here are my top 3 choices for 1955: The best song that year, in my opinion was Maybellene by Chuck Berry; It combines everything a young lad like me finds cool about the 50s. Cars. Fast cars. And f**king Chuck Berry. What more could a boy want. 1. Maybellene - Chuck Berry 2. I've Got A Woman - Ray Charles 3. Bo Diddley - Bo Diddley. Rock n Roll lesson over, Amigos. See you back for 1956. Johnny B Goode is on the list for 1958. Ain't that a shame is in the top ten. I can't remember the list off the top of my head but I will print it on my blog. If you want to see the whole list just add me as a contact and you will have access to the blog. I know I chose Folsom prison blues, Tutti Frutti, That old black magic. Cheers.

Why was the song "like a rolling stone" ranked the Greatest song of all time by the "Rolling Stone magazine"? I mean there are other songs that are much better. I dying to know what are the criteria. 70s 60s swing salsa etc. dance party? I'm throwing a party and using my iTunes as the DJ but I would like some more song suggestions. The music I am playing is 60/70's soul and funk. Old school (60s) Latin you stuff from the Fania label (La Lupe is the best), and jazz/swing, plus some blues and world music. I need more funky jazz like Soul Finger, Killer Joe, Moanin' and the like it doesn't have to be a hit just funky for the booty and stuff. Plus great latin stuff like Mongo and Willie and La Lupe. Harry Belefonte, Benny Goodman, Nina Simone, Ella, Aretha etc. Just really good stuff. So give me a good set list of about 20 songs you would want to hear. Soul Finger - The Bar-Keys La Reina - La Lupe Fontella Bass - Rescue Me Staple Singers - Respect Yourself Irma Thomas - Tomorrow Nina Simone - Feelin' Good Ramsey Lewis - Wade In The Water The Blue Brothers - She Caught The Katy Koko Taylor - Wang Dang Doodle Etta James - I'd Rather Go Blind Sugar Pie DeSanto - Soulful Dress Booker T. And The Mgs - Time Is Tight Marvin Gaye - Can I Get A Witness Gloria Jones - Tainted Love (the original and best version) Ray Charles - Booty Butt, Hit The Road, What'd I Say, Move It On Over (there are so many). Carla Thomas and Otis Redding - just about anything

The Evolution of Music? Okay this is going to sound INSANE but I think you might be able to help me. So I'm just going to say it in the easiest way possible. I need a text list of every rock and roll song ever made from 1960-2009. Gonna put it on my MP3 and play from morning til' night on a boat, in the sun. Thanks. Heres what I've come up with so far. If you are bored beyond all recognition (Which is probably true because you're browsing y.answers.) then this should help you with that. Aerosmith - "Same Old Song and Dance" Led Zeppelin - "Heartbreaker-Livin' Lovin' Maid" Eric Clapton - "Cocaine" Ten Years Later The Who The Beatles Santana - "Hope You're Feeling Better" Rush Pink Floyd - "Learning to Fly" Jimi Hendrix The Doors Rolling Stones Bob Dylan Neil Young Ted Nugent Cream Moody Blues Van Morrison Credence Clearwater Byrds Pink Floyd U2 Elvis Presley Buddy Holly Richie Valenz Ray Charles The Velvet Underground The Zombies Public Enemy Daft Punk Beck KISS Deep Purple child in time Eagles Queen John Lennon Derek and the Dominos - "Layla" Steppenwolf - "Born to be Wild" Don McLean Police Bruce Springsteen Lyrnyrd Skynyrd The Animals Buffalo Springfield Boston Kinks Kansas David Bowie The Clash New Radicals Red Hot Chili Peppers Green Day Linkin Park * Foo Fighters REM Weezer Staind The Offspring Lit Fuel Blink-182 Butthole Surfers COldplay Counting Crows Creed Dishwalla Alice Cooper Modest Mouse Franz Ferdinand Jehro Tull Genesis Yes Rush Lightning Crashes Black Sabbath Judas Priest AC/DC Metallica Iron Maiden - Trooper Antrhax Ramones Sex Pistols Def Leppard Guns N Roses Janes Addiction The Pixies The Cure Nirvana Pearl Jam Soundgarden Oasis The Verve Bush Creed Audioslave Candlebox Collective Soul Everclear Live Breaking Benjamin Seether 3 door down R.A.the machine p.o.d. Again thanks if you decide to do this if not, your loss.
Anyone else listen to stuff like this? I like various types of music, though I dislike punk rock & R rated stuff. most of the stuff I listen to are oldies, ya know stuff from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and songs released in 2000+ but a lotta stuff that's out now isn't as good as the old music I grew up with. Anyone else agree? A lot singers & musians I listen to are: Aretha Franklin Kenny G Bruce Hornsby Lou Rawls Backstreet boys S club 7 Patti La belle Tina Turner Ray Charles there's more on my list but this all I'm posting
R&P: Has there ever been a bigger collaboration? In honor of Michael Jackson's passing, I've been listening to his music, and his We Are The World project still amazes me. All of those big stars came together for one fantastic song, putting aside egos, and personal schedules. It is amazing to read about really. Michael Jackson skipped an Awards ceremony to record a vocal, Bruce Springsteen showing up to record in a pickup truck, Cyndi Lauper's jingling jewelry forcing extra takes, and the guys with deeper voices having to sit out some takes, because they didn't fit in well with the tone. * Lionel Richie * Stevie Wonder * Paul Simon * Kenny Rogers * James Ingram * Tina Turner * Billy Joel * Michael Jackson * Diana Ross * Dionne Warwick * Willie Nelson * Al Jarreau * Bruce Springsteen * Kenny Loggins * Steve Perry * Daryl Hall * Huey Lewis * Cyndi Lauper * Kim Carnes * Bob Dylan * Ray Charles There's the list in order that they appear. Look at those names. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WmxT21uFRwM What do you guys think of this song? Like it? Hate it? Is there anyone you wish could have been a part of making it? MQ: Favorite Michael Jackson song? MQ2: Favorite collaboration? BQ: How's everyone doing?
R&P....Unlikely Cover Versions? Can you think of any cover versions of songs that you are unlikely to hear? Please feel free to add to my list: 1. Michael Jackson – Young Girl (Gary Puckett And The Union Gap) 2. Stevie Wonder/Ray Charles – I Can See For Miles (The Who) 3. Amy Winehouse & Pete Docherty – The Drugs Don’t Work (The Verve) 4. Lynard Skynard – Leaving On A Jetplane (John Denver) 5. Bobby Brown & Whitney Houston – Smack My Bitch Up (The Prodigy) 6. Elton John – I Kissed The Girl (Katie Perry)
Why is Pete Docherty classed as/called a legend? his music is a throwback to REAL legends, i heard a song by the Libertines earlier which was nearly a complete rip-off of Boys Don't Cry by The Cure, down to the "bam..bam bam bam" drum solo and his lyrics seem repetitive, and quite meaningless, like they shoot around trying to find a lucky topic that people will connect with. to me, legends, music-wise at least are people such as: Freddie Mercury Kate Bush Siouxsie Sioux Robert Smith John Lennon Jim Morrison Michael Hutchence All of Pink Floyd(before AND after Syd) Ray Charles Kurt Kobain i would also say Barbra Streisand, but i've only heard about 3 songs by her, but even those are like, one-offs. there are a lot of others, but i've have a list as long as my backyard. *I'd have a list as long as my backyard if i listed them. i suppose another artist would be Nikki Sixx. by Throwback, i mean, it doesn't seem to have, his own stamp on it. we all influences of course, but he just seems to copy instead of trying to bring something new to it. *all have...........
Survey: what is one song you could listen to over and over? Who or what does it remind you of? For me there is a few one is Play Me by Neil Diamond, it reminds me of hubby Picture by Kidd Rock I don't know why but I love it Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley because I love to praise the Lord Seven Spanish Angels by Ray Charles and Willie Nelson it moves me Here Comes the Sun by the Beatles I look forward to it after winters gloom every year and the list goes on and on
I PUT A SPELL ON YOU? I bet you all know this amazing song... Does anyone know the cover I'm looking for?? There's a man singing and and playing the guitar. This cover is a really jazz/ blues cover and when it comes for the singer to solo with the guitar he kind of mumbles the music or the guitar is mumbling with a very annoying at first but then awesome sound. I know that I'm not providing enough details but I think that it's not by Screamin' Jay Hawkins. But it must be a very popular cover 'cause I've heard it plenty of times on the radio... Here's a list of the posibble covers... Covers and samples "I Put a Spell on You" has been covered dozens of times, perhaps most famously by Nina Simone on the 1965 album I Put A Spell On You, but also by performers such as Alan Price The Animals Natacha Atlas Audience Jimmy Barnes Batmobile Tab Benoit Eric Burdon performed it live at his show in Lugano in 2006. C.A. Quintet Nick Cave's band The Birthday Party Champion with guest vocalist Betty Bonifassi Ray Charles Joe Cocker Crazy World of Arthur Brown Creedence Clearwater Revival (who also performed it at Woodstock) Tim Curry Julien Doré Eels Estelle Bryan Ferry. This cover peaked at #18 in the UK charts in 1993. Diamanda Galás The Kills Buddy Guy (featuring Carlos Santana) Veronika Harcsa Hungarian jazz singer Jarboe Queen Latifah Phil Lesh & Friends (Famously covered the song at the Nokia Theater in New York City on Halloween Night 2007) Marilyn Manson Katie Melua Kim Nalley Alan Price and The Electric Blues Company Gabriel Rios Roxy Music She and Him Sonique's version of the song peaked at #8 in the UK in 2001. Them (featuring Van Morrison) Pete Townshend on his Deep End Live! album (with David Gilmour). Bonnie Tyler Leslie West Demon Fuzz Thank you... Yay, thanks Fool in the rain, that's the version I was looking for!
If 'We Are The World' was re-released with the artists of today who do you think would be included? "We Are the World" is a 1985 song written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, produced and conducted by Quincy Jones and recorded by a super group of around 40 popular musicians billed as USA (United Support of Artists) for Africa. The charity single was intended to raise funds to help famine-relief efforts in Ethiopia, which experienced unusual drought in 1984/1985. Besides Jackson and Ritchie, some of the artists included in the recording were Ray Charles, Bob Dylan, Billy Joel, Cyndi Lauper, Willie Nelson, Kenny Rogers, Diana Ross, Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen, Tina Turner, Dionne Warwick and Stevie Wonder. Here are a few artists who I think would be included in a modern day remake. Please note that just because I list a particular artist does not necessarily mean that I think that they should be included or that I personally like their music. Christina Aguilera Beyonce Bono Miley Cyrus Fergie Jay-Z Chad Kroeger Chris Martin Rihanna Britney Spears Justin Timberlake Kanye West will.i.am Amy Winehouse

Which book should I read? I'm going into 9th grade, and was given a list of books I can read. I only need to read one of these, and I'm looking for suggestions. These are the books that I would consider reading off of the list. I'd love for you to suggest one of these books to read, or just give me a rating of ones you have read from like, 1 to 10, ten being really good if you've only maybe read one of them. I'm pretty girly, my favorite authors are John Green and Sarah Dessen, and I have read series like Pretty Little Liars and Gossip Girl too.... I like reading about people with illnesses and deep issues to give an idea of what I like to read. Also, maybe if you notice a good author, could you point it out to me too? Thanks! - Emma by Jane Austen - Go Tell it on the Mountain by James Baldwin - Yoruba Girl Dancing by Simi Bedford - Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury - Great Expectations by Charles Dickens - Sherlock Holmes by Arthur C. Doyle (doesn't really sound interesting to me, but I've heard a lot of references to it.... Guessing it is a commonly read book) - Silas Marner by George Eliot (Marianne Evans) - Ellen Foster by Kaye Gibbons - Floating in my Mother's Palm by Ursula Hegi - Shiva Dancing by Bharti Kirchner - A seperate peace by John Knowles - Laughing Boy by Oliver LaFarge - The Chronicles of Narnia - Crystal by Walter Myers - A Town like Alice by Nevil Shute - The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkein (again, doesn't spark my interest, but I've heard many references to it) - Dicey's Song by Cynthia Voight BIOGRAPHIES - The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank - Having Our Say: The Delany sisters first 100 years by Sarah Delany - They Cage the Animals at Night by Jennings M. Burch

Anyone know 30s-50s (and maybe 60s) oldies? I've suddenly become an oldies junkie.. So far I've got Ray Charles, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Charles Aznavour, Brigitte Bardot, Julie London, Vera Lynn, Paul Anka, Peter Alexander, Carlos Gardel, Lale Andersen, Mireille Mathieu, Marlene Dietrich, and Edith Piaf. I'm interested in catchy music, more than "musically good" music, if it makes any sense to point it out (it should rule out music that grows too repetitive and single out the songs that are slightly different to the rest, the more memorable ones). Also I'd like to balance the german and spanish in my list, but I don't know how to look for more artists (even less so songs) I'd like. Any language is ok, I know english, spanish, german and french, so I understand those, but I could find japanese oldies to be amusing. Thanks in advance!
