vh1 Soul Music R B Knowledge Base
Who will win the American Music Award 4 Favorite Female Soul/R&B Artist? The nominess are... Beyonce Fantasia Rihanna Rite away, Fantasia is the "nominee placeholder" or odd woman out. I'm guessing she's a regular on VH1 & BET because I sure don't here her 2 often on my (terrestrial) radio. I guess the "American Idol 3" champion sure picked the right year - in between recognitions of Mary J. Blige & Alicia Keys (scheduled 2 per4m this year) 2 b nomin8d. & I think this is the year that Rihanna gets recognised. She's domin8d the airwaves during much of 2007 w/ her #1 hit "Umbrella," & while I ain't 2 much of a fan, I actually hope she wins in lieu of Beyonce. Besides, I h8 "Irreplaceable." So what do u think? Dick Clark's big show is on 11/18/07. Take yer pick & if u wish, explain.
Why does DirecTV refuse to add MTV Jams, MTV Hits and VH1 Soul to its lineup? Ugh!! I wish I knew why they have ZERO continuous music video channels! Both Dish and DirecTV do not have any music video channels, except for BET J (Jazz) and VH1 Classic. I'm not going to cancel Direct just because of these 3 channels, but I really would like for them to add these video networks. It seems to have come to my attention that they don't want to add these channels because they're "too Black." Yes, these channels have mostly Black people in their music videos. MTV Jams is hip-hop, MTV Hits is R&B and some hip-hop and VH1 Soul is a mix of old-school and R&B and maybe minimal rap music. My sister has digital cable and all 3 are there, even VH1 Classic. Hell, we'll probably see CMT Pure Country before we see any of the 3 networks I want. Direct is cheaper than cable, but you know, I would like the music videos, yes. What are they saving the bandwidth for? The Basket Weaving channel? Something will probably have to freeze over before they add the extra music channels...yes?
The Racism of the Music Industry? Why is it that White or non-Black artists like Robin Thicke, Eminiem, Teena Marie, Justin Timberlake, Fergie, Gwen Stefani, M.I.A, J.Lo who collaborate with Hip-hop artists, and tend to do R&B, rap, or soul music get airplay on "Black" radio stations and "black" channels like BET. But Black artisits that do rock, punk, metal, techno, j-pop, or any other music genre that isn't hip-hop, soul or R&B don't recieve any recongition from the Black community at all and they are largely ignored. This why I hate BET and many radio stations because they fail to display all genres of music where Black people are represented. At least MTV and VH1 has shown some bands such as Bloc Party(that has a Black frontman), FeFe Dobson, Lenny Kravitz, Bad Brains, Fishbone, Living in Colour, Ben Harper, Saul Williams, Crystal Kay(she is a famous Black/Korean popstar in Asia), Santigold, Charley Pride, theres much more. How come you never hear about Black people involved in rock music anymore? Why does the media like to limit Blacks just to hip-hop or r&b?
I miss the way TV used to be. What happened? I kind of miss the way TV used to be. There were so many good shows on back in the day. Where did they all go? I'm so glad I'm an adult now, because if I was a kid nowadays, I would have nothing to watch. Even the saturday morning cartoons suck now. I remember when television felt more "family" like. It was like everyday or every weekday, we get to watch a family and we felt like we actually knew the people. Every weekday you get to watch families.....The Winslows, The Huxtables, The Jeffersons, now it's just a bunch of reality shows. I miss watching the old comedy shows like In Living Color. They used to make fun of EVERYBODY. The show's been canceled for a good while now, but I still think it's funnier than these current shows they show today like Mad TV. Arsenio! What a show. But all good things must come to an end I guess. And what has happened to BET? VIDEO SOUL! I miss Donnie Simpson, I miss the videos and I remember a time when BET used to be a mature grown folk station with talented black musicians. Now it's just a bunch of BS on BET. They have good R&B videos, but the rap videos suck ass! Honestly, I like VH1 a little better. There still are a very few good shows on TV. I like watching VH1. It's a music station and they show stuff like "Behind the music" and some good 80s movies that I like. Some of the stuff they have on VH1 is kind of interesting. TV has gotten so bad to where I'm just starting to watch Oprah! As a man, I will admit that I do watch Oprah at times. I know Oprah is a woman's show, but she has interesting guests and topics. I like watching Lifetime too. I don't care if these are women shows. I just watch whatever interests me. I love watching the news and sportscenter. It's funny how the news seem to be more intriuging than this silly mess they keep showing on TV. I've noticed that KET is interesting at times. They'd show documentaries of funk/soul/jazz/rock musicians. I also like checking out Tavis Smiley (when he has an interesting guest on TV). When he doesn't, I find myself falling asleep. Martin is ok, but I find myself not wanting to watch it sometimes because it's old and outdated. I've been watching the show since I was like.. 7 or 8 and I think I've seen every episode. Still funny still. One thing that I do miss about Friday nights is TGIF on ABC. I remember the line up very well. Family Matters at 8:00, Step by Step at 8:30, Boy Meets World at 9:00, and Hangin' with Mr.Cooper at 9:30. I also miss the old cartoons and saturday morning cartoons. What happened to Peanuts?! Where's Looney Toons?! TV has lost it's imagination and creativity. They ran out of ideas, and just felt to show something "real". There's more sex and violence on TV than there were 20 years ago. But people like that stuff and I guess that's what sells. TV ain't as good as it used to be, and you GOTS to have cable nowadays! I'd say somewhere around 1996 was when TV was going downhill. That's when most of the actors were going through their problems and wasn't as funny. I miss the old TV.
Does MTV and VH-1 have a station that shows all videos? meaning even non-mainstream r&b, rock. like Heather Headley, and Bilal..etc..everything...even if the people aren't really considered "famous"...just wondering..because I know if it weren't for BET I wouldn't know some of the neo-soul artists..but like I said does MTV and Vh1 have another station that shows older...and non mainstream music videos?
