Greatest singers of all time? So Rolling Stone released their pointless list that proved they are no longer and significant or credible music magazine (Kurt Cobain a singer?!) The list completely ignored jazz and blues and classical. No Ella?! And no Maria Callas?! If you are going to title a list the Greatest Singers of Time- well fuck it... I'm still pissing over how they left Sharon Isbin of the greatest guitarist of all time. Anyway if you could pick your personal favorites who would you pick as best male and female singers. Heck give a top ten. This is your chance to be pompous and snooty just like Rolling Stone. I'd pick Flora Purim (her 6 octave vocal range blows my mind!) Ray Charles (yeah he was #2 and let's be honest the guys phrasing was impeccable he could sing anything and make it sound like he had lived it) Carole King not the greatest voice but her phrasing is unbelievable. Ella Fitzgerald Roy Orbison Maria Callas Koko Taylor (so raw and hard edged) Brian Johnson (To sing like that all the time and not lose your voice...) Who is the all-time greatest singer? In any genre. Rock, pop, r n' b, soul, jazz etc. I don't just mean in terms of who can sing the highest notes and all that. But also, who has had an influence on their genre of music, has a unique voice and actually has the ability to convey what they're feeling through their voice. My friend tells me that Beyonce' is one of the all time great singers -I KNOW OTHER SINGERS THAT IS BETTER . Is Beyonce' a better singer than Anita Baker,Whitney Houston,Marieh Carey,or even her Dreamgirls co-star Jennifer Hudson. Don't forget about J-LO or Gladys Knight. who agrees that freddie mercury was the greatest singer and frontman of all time? other people say robert plant, mick jagger, jim morrison and other singers were better. the only reason they say that is because they've never heard freddie's voice. jim morrison is just a joke. very overrated. if you go to youtube and type in "freddie's vocal range", and "freddie with the hgh tone", you will see how bad freddie smokes these other singers.he also has amazing vocal controll.

Why do some people think Kurt Cobain was the greatest rock star of all time? You mean to tell me out of all the great musicians, and singers through out all of history, that Cobain was the best of all? I think not. Look at Joe Walsh. He was a much better guitar player than Kurt. So was Keith Richards. Eddie Van Halen has a style that , when you hear him play you know it's Van Halen. You wanna hear greatness? Put in some Clapton. Even "Heart" were much better than K.C.
