Is it the blu-ray movie or the TV that makes the characters move life like which at first can seem fake?
I was watching the 3rd Pirates at Best Buy on Blu-Ray and I notice that the people's movement was so real that the movie at first looked fake but the more I watched it seemed good. The TV was a Samsung.

- Blu-ray enhances the quality of the picture of the DVD. For best results it is advisable to have a high definition TV. But whether you use a HDTV or not, the picture will be much better and clearer than the standard DVD player.
- Well... the BluRay disk is just the way the high def video is stored. You will get the same image quality from a HD cable box, Verizon Fios, HD Sat receiver etc. So you could say it's the TV. But ... thats not really true either. It's really the HD Standard that allows for 720 or 1080 lines of video resolution that gives you life-like images.
- Contrary to the previous poster...if you do not have an HDTV...you WILL NOT get any advantage in Blu-ray. IT WILL LOOK IDENTICAL TO DVD!! IF you have a normal tv, the blu-ray player will actually downscale the picture to 480i/p (which is the exact same resolution of DVD) Anyways, Although the picture quality of Blu-ray is amazing, I believe you're actually referring to the "Motionflow" technology used on a lot of newer LCD tvs. If it was a Blu-ray display...more than likelely they were showing it on a Sony XBR4 LCD tv or a Samsung (both companies that are really pushing the technology). It has motion enhancing which sony has dubeed as "MotionFlow" which makes motion look unbelievably real...almost gives it the "fake" look like you said. These TVs have a refresh rate of 120HZ while most tvs have it at 60 hz. So basically it's got double the refresh rate which gives it the improved motion displaying ability. It's nuts isnt it? If you have a Fry's Electronics in your area...they have the same movie, playing onn two identical TVS, both Blu-Ray, one with the motion enhancing on and one with it off. The difference is amazing! So to summarize the answer...in this case, it actually IS THE TV that is giving it the "life-like fake" quality. But again, the tv MUST have the 120HZ refresh rate for it to be able to do this. Not all LCD tvs have this option.Hope this helps, if you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail! :)
