What happened to Jamie Foxx after the Ray Charles movie ?

Last, night my father made a comment I found very funny. He said, "I never saw that guy singing until after he did the Ray Charles movie" Now today, Jamie Foxx is singing with a big electric guitar in his hand, and sang many times qutie professionally throughout the show. What's all that about ? How did this happen ? Did he bump his head on the set of "Ray" and suddenly discover his musical ability ?

1. No, he's been singing for awhile and on the BET Awards he even went as far as to say singing is what he's always wanted to do. But in the late '90's, on "The Jamie Foxx Show," there were several occasions where he would sing, his "character" even wanted to sing.
2. Jamie Fox was always a pro singer. he's actually pretty good @ it. His career however remains in acting. He's had a few singles, i'm sure u've heard them. They were hits!
